Very very sad to read.  Read various reports that he tried to contact the family of Darryl Stingley straight afterwards (but they declined his visit) and then others saying he never tried to.

Met Jack Tatum when i went to Oakland years back....

Trip to Oakland 2002 / IMAGE003.JPG

Very very nice bloke (He was one of the many veterans before the game who mingles in the tailgate party for you to say hi with etc). Had a good little chat with him, just a very nice guy.

Clip was nice; The guy does deserve to be in the Hall of Fame; but with that hit that ended Stingley career will always be against him....he did nothing illegal; but it made him the bad guy.

Very sad news. Jack will always be a true Raider.

Has anyone read 'They Call Me Assassin?

Tatum's team mates called him 'The Reverend.'

Sad day.

Whilst his hit on Stingley was clean the ball had gone and he didn't need to make the hit. There are lots of stories and counter stories from both sides about whether he apologised or not. I'll guess we'll never know for sure.

It was a different era back then; he was a great player but we will always remember for that hit on Stingley
