Any retro gamers out there ?  Not into the X-Box or Wii, still like a good blast of Spectrum games on an emulator though !  MAME as well, tons of arcade games on an emulator, superb stuff.

Cant beat a bit of Bomb Jack on the Speccy !

Love this site...

MySpeccy.com

Online emulator which keeps scores, very addictive !

I am a massive retro gamer and rememeber 1978 when I fed my first 10p into space invaders and have been hooked ever since.  I have most computers and consoles from the ZX80 right up to the present day with games to go with them.  I also own a games store which certainly helps.

If you want to talk about old school gaming then you can always join up on my other site. Welcome to Maturegaming.co.uk which has a retro section in there and also a guy who writes articles for retro gamer magazine etc

Sounds good, i'll check it out

I post a lot over at the Retro Gamer forums and also World of Spectrum.  Love gadgets !  Play a ton of emulators on a GP2X , great device !  Also have a MAME cabinet.

Finally (sorry dont mean to plug)...

Doing a series of Speccy books...

Spectrum Games Bible

Books 1 -2 are out, tons of reviews from fans etc, dont make much on each sale (Its lulu.com afterall) but enjoy looking back at that golden era !  The last retro gathering (Retro Fusion) was very well attended and very good

retro fusion.  Was that the one near Coventry?? about a month or so ago.  I had a few friends that went there.  If you want to sell your books through the site I would be more than welcome to add them to the stock list when our store goes live very soon.

Yeah thats the one, Kenilworth.  Was very good, Radio 1 were there and did a news feature on it in the lunchtime bulletin the next day.  Should be another one coming up soon , this time down south.

Cheers for the offer, i dont have any of the books to sell myself, we sell them through the lulu website but any URL's etc you could add would be good. Retro Gamer had a 2 page feature on the books 3 issues ago which was great.

Still not broke even yet but not really in it for the money (hence the price is low as most of that are lulu's printing costs) but its great to have reviews of lots of old games etc.

Cool thread. Still remember the old Atari 2600 of course. I was really big into the Commodore 64 scene about 20 or so years ago. I like the fact that you can play the games now without waiting(....And waiting) for the floppy to load.  anybody remember how bad pac man looked on the 2600? Smiley

Not really a gamer but still remember the first game for the Acorn Electron I got. Elite, very addictive. I still have it in my loft somewhere.

Remember it looks bad now but at the time when you had an atari it was awasome. It's like old days play manic miner in to the small hours.

No, I thought it was horrible at the time also. Pac Man cost something like $40 and this is around 1981-82. It was the game that put me off the 2600 and  had me begging for an Intellivision (...And then Colecovision). Grin

Cant get into games nowadays, sound/graphics are amazing but often the gameplay just isnt that good.  I still play tons of old arcade games, graphics/sound arent always the best but its all about gameplay.

The 2600 when it first came out i thought was superb, funny looking back at some of the games, Pac Man was awful (Ms Pacman was better) but i thought Space Invaders was great on it, had so many different variations and 2 player Combat was good back th en

Agree with that. Space Invaders had something like a hundred different game options. I still remember the excitement of playing Combat when it was new. Does anyone remember the way you could shoot  an opposing tank through the screen to the other side? It was some kind of glitch.  Worst game on the 2600 that I remember was E.T.

Where abouts are you from in Berkshire ?

Yeah ET was a huge disaster, so was Pacman really, didnt realise how bad it was until i played it years later on an emulator.  That Atari 2600 system was great though.

I remember when the first Gameboy came out, the big grey brick , that was really impressive back then.
